The coastal voices of the people that live here are as diverse as the places that they live. We are all connected by the water and the challenges that arise when living in geographically remote locations.
There are First Nations settlements that have existed for thousands of years. We have some resilient descendants of Finns and Norwegians still living in their founding communities. There are new generations of people who are looking for a different way of life than what the city can offer. And then there are the anarchists (you know who you are)!
We are much closer to our ocean ecosystem because of where we live; in fact, we are a part of it. The choices that we make about how we impact this ecosystem matter and our involvement in any future decisions about it are crucial.

Why do you love the ocean?
How do you and/or your community depend on its continued health? What do you hope life on the coast is like in five, ten or 20 years?
Send us your short (under two minutes) video talking, singing, shouting, dancing, you name it about the ocean, and we will post it right here! In the video please state who you are, where you live, and if you want, what you do. |
Whether you live in Sointula or Bella Coola, Campbell River or Port Hardy, you have knowledge that is unique and local. This knowledge can contribute to the fine-scale information that other studies just can’t do. It is your local expertise that we want to be sure is included with our Local Ecological Knowledge project.
