| Our environment is changing and so are our communities. We don’t have the economic security that fishing, forestry and mining once provided. It’s up to us to determine how our communities will survive so that our kids and grandkids can still make a living and raise their families here.
The historic mismanagement of human activities on the water is putting pressure on the ocean ecosystem. Climate change and ocean acidification has challenged our scientific knowledge of how the ocean "works" and how best to protect it. There are already some threats to our coastal way of life: offshore oil and gas development and oil spills, the real possibility of extinction of our wild salmon stocks, and unsustainable fishing practices. How can we balance and adapt to all of these changes to ensure a healthy ocean ecosystem and a healthy future for the next seven generations? We need a plan. ![]() |
