Participating in the Environmental Review of the Northern Gateway Project
![]() Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council |
In order for the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipelines project to proceed, it must be reviewed and approved by Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB) and Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA). Living Oceans Society is taking part in the review as a Public Participant. The review process is semi-judicial (kind of like a courtroom) and led by a panel of three government employees from the NEB and CEAA (known as the Joint Review Panel). We’re at the Joint Review Panel sessions serving as a voice for the coast. After hearing expert evidence and witnesses, the Joint Review Panel should have a better idea of the risks associated with the proposed project. We’re making sure that the panel knows that the cost to the coast is too high when it comes to gambling on oil tankers. |
