Safeway takes leadership in ocean advocacy - Send a Thank You Message!
Safeway Inc. and its subsidiary Canada Safeway have announced that by 2015 all of its fresh and frozen seafood will be from traceable and eco-friendly sources, or be in a credible improvement project.
Safeway is one of North America’s largest retailers so this is great news for our oceans which are under increasing pressure from overfishing, pollution, habitat degradation and other harmful fishing and farming. Safeway’s commitment significantly helps to protect and preserve our seafood resources for generations to come.
Safeway’s progressive Sustainable Seafood Policy was created in partnership with FishWise and SeaChoice a coalition of five of Canada’s leading environmental organizations, including Living Oceans Society.
