I am a visual artist who is originally from North Vancouver. I've been living in Sointula since 2013, working at Living Oceans while also running a small artist residency/project space called The Sointula Art Shed with my husband Tyler. Working at Living Oceans is a particularly gratifying opportunity for me, as the organization is part of the reason my husband and I were first drawn to live in Sointula. We are both deeply concerned about the environment, and as someone who grew up on a houseboat in a marina, I have had a life-long concern for the state of our oceans in particular.
Over the past few years, I’ve been lucky enough to have some amazing opportunities to exhibit my art and participate in residencies both nationally and internationally. While I find these artistic endeavours to be personally gratifying on many levels, I'm also grateful to work for an organization where I can be part of a team that addresses environmental issues in much less abstract ways than I do through my art. As a new parent, I feel an added urgency regarding these issues, and am very happy to be part of a team that is truly committed to ensuring the health of our oceans for generations to come.
