Having a plan will make it easier for us to take a holistic look at the ocean. A good marine plan will focus on the ecosystem as a whole and balance the social, economic, and ecological requirements for a healthy and productive environment. This will not only benefit us in the short term by increasing certainty and reducing conflict between different users, but will also benefit our children and grandchildren in the long term by charting a future where there is still a living to be made on the Coast, where there is clean air and clean water, and where the species that are here today are taken care of for tomorrow.

The Federal government already wants to plan for the region. What we call home, they call the Pacific North Coast Integrated Management Area (PNCIMA). It is one of five areas in Canada designated for marine planning.

We will be posting updates about how this process is moving forward regularly, so check back often. Alternatively, you could go to the PNCIMAwatch website and sign up there for updates.
